Our Cast Iron Radiator Restoration at the Municipal Hotel, Liverpool
04 November 2024^ Did you know? The Municipal Hotel Liverpool boasts beautiful cast iron radiators dating back to 1868
Rich History, Unique Challenge: Built in 1862, the Municipal Building is a Grade II listed masterpiece. Preserving its original features, including the cast iron radiators, was paramount to the hotel’s restoration project. These radiators, some circular and intricately designed, posed a unique challenge for cast iron radiator restoration experts. Their one-of-a-kind nature meant that any leaks or imperfections couldn’t be easily repaired.
Radrestore (www.radrestore.co.uk) is a leading provider of cast iron radiator restoration services in the UK. We were privileged to be chosen by English Heritage to breathe new life into the historic cast iron radiators of the Municipal Hotel in Liverpool.
Our Expertise at Work: After carefully transporting the radiators to our workshop, each one underwent Radrestore’s signature comprehensive restoration process. This involved blasting away years of paint and debris, followed by expert repairs and rigorous testing to ensure leak-free operation.
Finally, the radiators received their finishing touch: a beautiful aged gold finish to complement the hotel’s period interior.
A Lasting Legacy: Today, these meticulously restored cast iron radiators hold court throughout the Municipal Hotel Liverpool, echoing the building’s rich heritage. These functional works of art will continue warming the hands (and hearts) of generations of hotel guests visiting the city of Liverpool for many decades to come.
^ The Municipal Building’s Second Empire architecture, influenced by French styles, is evident in the radiator’s intricate design.
